I don't need to read music to understand it.... I play in an open D tuning and didn't know how to play 7ths, 9ths, etc. I use EZ Key to help me find the notes for the chords I need to play. Over time, I have found I'm doing the same thing to find different information, and I've notice how it all relates now.
